Das ist jetzt aber nicht "386er oder höher"Da DOS nicht aus der Tüte mit 4 Diskettenlaufwerken umgehen kann, war auch
"386er oder höher" erwähnt, um das mit Linux ausprobieren zu können, da der Linux-Kernel nach seinem Start nicht für jeden Furz auf das BIOS angewiesen ist.
Bloß, weil da "386er oder höher" geschrieben steht, heißt das noch lange nicht, dass auf dem System nicht auch DOS laufen kann
Außerdem gabs ja auch schon vor dem 386er noch andere Betriebssysteme, die nicht DOS waren. OS/2 oder diverse Unices zum Beispiel. Für den EC1834 gabs auch ein Unix (MUTOS1834), das sollte auch mit 4 Laufwerken umgehen können. Vielleicht können das diverse andere Unices (Xenix und Co.) auch, vielleicht sogar CP/M-86. Das "alte" CP/M fürn Z80 kanns beispielsweise: Die Robotron-Bürocomputer der 8-Bit-Ära liefen zum Großteil mit SCP bzw. CP/A (CP/M-Derivate, wenn man so sagen will), die hatten kein Problem mit 3 oder 4 Diskettenlaufwerken.
Mir ist weiterhin auch kein IBM PC-kompatibler bekannt, der mehr als 2 Diskettenaufwerke hat (also bis auf die frühe Robotron EC1834-Version; die späteren hatten auch nur noch maximal zwei Diskettenlaufwerke und eine Festplatte), egal in welcher Leistungsklasse. Zu der Zeit war mit Aufkommen der Festplatte im PC-Bereich (PC/XT) die Ära der Diskettenlaufwerke als Hauptspeichermedium schon vorbei, möchte ich meinen.
Hat hier schon mal jemand ein System (386er oder höher) mit mehr als 2 Diskettenlaufwerken realisiert?
Dazu brauchst du auch softwareseitig die Unterstützung. Ich weiß, dass der Robotron EC1834 (Ein IBM PC/XT-Nachbau) in der ersten Modellreihe mit 4 Diskettenlaufwerken ausgeliefert wurde (DS QD, also rund 800kB pro Diskette). Das DOS-kompatible Betriebssystem DCP auf den 1834 war dafür aber auch ausgelegt, das reguläre DOS (was auf dem Rechner auch läuft) hingegen nicht von Werk aus.
Was für einen magste denn haben?
EDIT: Weitere CPUs (1x Celeron D 346, 2x Pentium 4 620, 2x Pentium 4 630, 1x Pentium 4 550) hinzugefügt.
Zum Thema "Übertakten" sage ich jetzt mal nix..

Ich hoffe ja, dass der heute oder morgen ankommt :-\ Wenns dringend ist, kannst du natürlich auch den E6300 (2x 1,866GHz) oder E4600 (2x 2,40GHz) kriegen, kein Thema. Der E4600 ist zwar höher getaktet, hat aber nur FSB800 statt 1066.

Meines Wissens nach gabs auch Mainboards mit i850-Chipsatz und diesem MTH, also ein RDRAM-Board mit Umsetzer auf SDRAM. Dass da der i845 drin ist, hab ich erst gemerkt, als ich in die Anleitung geschaut habe

Ist ein HP Vectra VL420MT. Soll wohl kaputt sein, aber sieht optisch (bis auf eine gefühlte Tonne Staub xD) noch gut aus, das Mainboard. Vllt. ist auch das Netzteil hin, da hab ich noch nicht reingeguggt. Eigentlich wären für mich nur das Mainboard, die CPU, der RAM und die HDD interessant
Und das MB auch nur, um mal zu vergleichen, wie stark der Performance-Unterschied zu einem RDRAM-Board ist. Das P4B-MX hat ja den i845 drauf - nur nicht mit DDR-SDRAM sondern mit einfachem SDRAM.

Im DOS-Bereich waren davon üblich:
Laufwerke mit Doppelter Dichte (40 Spuren, also die 160...360kB-Versionen) können Disketten mit Hoher Dichte (80 Spuren, also die 1200kB-Varianten) nicht lesen, andersrum schon. ABER: Schreibt man 40-Spur-Disketten in 80-Spur-Laufwerken, ist es sehr gut möglich, dass die 40-Spur-Laufwerke mit den Disketten nichts anfangen können, da die Spuren, die die 80-Spur-Laufwerke geschrieben haben, schmaler sind, als es für die 40-Spur-Laufwerke erforderlich ist bzw. diese selbst schreiben würden. Es könnte daher sein, dass das Laufwerk einen Mischmasch aus Alten ("außen" an der Spur) und Neuen Daten ("innen" in der Spur) liest.
Weiterhin werden DD-Disketten mit einer anderen Feldstärke beschrieben als HD-Disketten - die bei HD-Disketten ist höher. Nun weiß ich nicht, wie es dahingehend aussieht, ob HD-Laufwerke beim Beschreiben von DD-Disketten die niedrigere Feldstärke nutzen.
Allgemein lässt sich sagen: Willst du 80-Spur-Disketten schreiben, nimm ein HD-Laufwerk ("1,2MB"), willst du 40-Spur-Disketten scheiben, nimm ein DD-Laufwerk ("360kB").
'nen kompletten HP-Rechner von Ende 2001. Soll defekt sein, mal schauen. Da das Board (ASUS P4B-MX) SDRAM PC133 drauf hatte, nahm ich an, dass es eventuell noch ein Sockel 423 wäre, ists aber nicht! Ist ein Sockel 478 mit einem 1,5GHz Pentium 4 drauf - und 256MB RAM.. Dazu noch eine ATi Rage 128 Pro sowie eine 3Com EtherLink XL und eine Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 20GB (ST320011A). ![]()

Wieso? Läuft doch im "Tryout Mode" - und mehr als das mache ich ja nicht. Ich probiere aus, ob das 2.1.4 auf den Prozessoren funktioniert ![]()
Allerdings find ichs etwas dööflich, dass die 2.1.4 unter Linux bei mir bei den Athlon Thunderbird und Duron Spitfire fröhlich mit einem "Illegal Instruction"-Fehler abbricht, jedes Mal an der Selben Stelle (während der FPU-Tests). Ist auch Board-unabhängig, es sei denn, das ist ein Bug, den es in den VIA-Chipsätzen vom KT133 (non-A!) bis hoch zum KT600 gibt.. Habs nämlich auf einem KT133-Board, zwei KT333- und einem KT600-Board probiert - überall mit dem selben Effekt..

Oha, der sieht ja wirklich schlimm aus.. Die Bezeichnung "Horrorfilm-Requisite" ist gewiss gut gewählt
Schade, dass manche solche Schätze vergammeln lassen..
Gibts die Probleme auch bei 70ns?
Natürlich können die Pentium 4 64bit. Allerdings nicht alle. Die 600er könnens, die 500er zum Teil auch (da gabs irres Kuddelmuddel seitens Intel). Der 530 kanns nicht, PAE hat er aber, der Adressbus ist 36bit breit.
